Earlier in the week, we were on the train to Manhattan with B's parents. B and I were sitting in two seats next to each other. I stared wistfully out the window until B turned to me. He stared at me intensely, looked right into my eyes said:
"Your sclera is blue."
"No. It isn't! Wait, what's a sclera?"
'The whites of your eyes. They're blue. You probably have osteogenesis imperfecta."
"What?"
"It makes your sclera blue."
Nice.
I'm turning into a smurf.
Later, B decided I might also have myopia. To which I replied:
"What? No. I see fine close up. Sometimes I can't see far away"
Which is exactly what myopia is.
I tried to take a picture of it, but it's kind of hard to take a picture of your smurf eyeballs.
And I do not have osteogenesis imperfecta.
And B has been in medical school so long he no longer speaks English.
And I'm usually pretty good with words.

English is overrated.
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up with us again at Medical Mondays. I love what you have done with your blog. Pink and navy is one of my favorite color combinations. Being married to a med student/doctor makes you a walking subject for whatever they are studying!
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing how quickly learning medicine can erase one's knowledge of English... found you on Medical Mondays! Looking forward to keeping up with you. :)

When I walk through the halls of my school with a limp, I can sense medical students staring at me trying to figure out what might be causing my foot drop...Sometimes I hear them whispering what they think is wrong with me, its never right...but oh so fun to hear them guessing!
ReplyDeleteStopping by from MM! I'm looking forward to following your blog. That story is hilarious- don't you love it when they try to diagnose you?! Completely kidding. Luckily, my husband is Ortho so he only chimes in when I get joint pain ;) Would love to have you stop by my blog- thewittylife.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteOh man.. I think B is working too hard! :) haha.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you're not becoming a smurf, too! :)
Thanks for linking up with MM! and CONGRATULATIONS on your engagement!!! Such an exciting time. Just wait until medical school is finished and residency begins...they may as well speak in Russian. No more English for you ;)
ReplyDeleteThat was the story of my life when I was with S. hilarious!
ReplyDeletehaha! Sometimes I miss speaking English at home. I wonder if we will raise our future children to be bilingual in English and medicalese. That could be handy!
ReplyDeleteToo funny. I have a good friend in law school and she is always diagnosing me ;)
ReplyDeleteand by law school I meant med school. I wonder what my diagnosis is for that hah
